London calling
How amazing is it to hop on a train and a few hours later you're in another country?
Something quite novel for a lass from Australia.
So of course the first thing a gal from the colonies must do on her very first trip to London is to pop over to see if Her Majesty is at home and request a cuppa.
But unfortunately the only people at home were a truck load of tourists and 2 guards.
Never mind - a cafe will do just as well.

I'm sure if you'd called first she would have had the kettle on for you - and perhaps a slice of Battenberg cake waiting...she'd probably just popped out to get a pint of milk or something.

DeleteWonderful photos to get the feel of the place. I know how you feel when you marvel how easily Europeans can move from one country to another. From the States, I see many different modes of living as I move from state to state yet it is not the same as going from country to country.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. We did a lot of international train travel on that trip and I loved every second. I hope I get to repeat it soon.
DeleteOh, your photos remind me of a lovely visit a few years ago. More guards, though. We didn't plan it as such but "landed" around the time they were doing their pretty spectacular changing thing! A good and lucky moment!
ReplyDeleteYou must have got some amazing photos. We didn't plan either. We just hoped on the tube (love saying that) and found ourselves at Buckingham Palace. Next time I will time it better.

DeleteI wouldn't worry about the cuppa. A lady I knew was invited to a Royal garden party at the palace (attended by hundreds of guests), she commented to her friend that the tea cups were rather small. A woman behind her voiced her agreement. When she turned around she saw that it was HM herself.

DeleteIsn't it though! Canada only touches one other country, so the close knit nature of Europe with its ability to let you hop between so many different nations in a relatively short time is hugely appealing to me as well.
