A walk, a ride, a warrior queen, remembering sacrifice and the Houses of Parliament.
It was hot
We were tired
But not yet ready to head back to the hotel
We decided to just wander.
Saw a wonderful way to view the city,
but hubby has a wee problem with heights
so decided to look at something else.
Stopped and pondered at a monument to the brave,
And threw a quick cheery wave to Boudicca as we dodged the hooves of her fine steeds.
And finally got close up and personal with the Palace of Westminster.
Well not too close.
Since the Versaille debacle we were very reluctant to join any queue.
So it's on my list of "places to actually go inside of" when I return to London.
As indeed I shall.

I don't think I've ever seen photos of the Battle of Britain monument. It is impressive!

DeleteOh, London! I love it so! I just finished a Bryant and May mystery where Boudicca was mentioned often! Nice timing seeing the statue!

ReplyDeleteIt was called Bryant and May On the Loose. Have you read any of the other B&M books by Christopher Fowler? I recommend starting at the top of the series -- this is book 7. The mysteries are self contained but the characters do evolve. Very eccentric 80-somethings who head a "Peculiar Crimes Unit." Bryant, the most eccentric (May is actually quite "normal") is very into old Brit history, what USED to be. That's where Boudicca came up. I'm trying to remember if she played a key role in Edward Rutherford's Sarum or London? Seems like it but I might be thinking of the old BBC series about her -- probably 10 or so years ago?
