Eager to see some of the great Renaissance Masters but short of cash when in Rome?
Pop into any church for free, avoid the crowds and admire and absorb at your leisure.

Ladies just remember that shoulders and knees must be covered.
It's a perfect excuse for buying a couple of beautiful scarves from any street vendor (there are hundreds) to create a quick shawl and sarong skirt to pop over your top and shorts. This also doubles as a perfect and cheap souvenir of your Roman Holiday.
Great idea -- one I've done many a time. But the idea of buying the street sarong is brilliant! Going to remember that one -- a nice souvenir and functional!

DeleteYou are so right. Rome has so many treasures you can see for free. My favourite is Michaelangelo's La Pieta in St Peter's.

DeleteTerrific advice! Another spot that I've sometimes found to be a good source of publicly accessible classic art (much more so in Europe than here in Canada) has been post offices located in historic buildings. Such isn't usually the works of great masters, but it's still very beautiful and can still delight art and/or history fans quite a bit. :)

I've never thought of it before but you're so right! I saw some beautiful post offices in Europe. Much more pleasant to visit than the Australian version. :)
