The sweet smell of memories
I miss wearing perfume.
I've had a recent bout of flu (mild thank goodness) where you'd think the inability to wear perfume would be of little consequence. I mean - I couldn't smell a dang thing anyway.
But a lineup of migraines in the last couple of years (yes - off to the neurologist I go) has had me unable to tolerate my favourite scents (at least until the kathumping stops).
I was thinking about this as I was driving to another specialist appointment (gynae, not neuro, oh the joys of being female) and realised that today was the first time in a while that I've been able to spritz myself before leaving the house. I have a bottle of Maroussia at the moment.
It's spicy, fiery and fun, and I like to wear it when I'm feeling adventurous (or needing false bravado when one is heading of to a gynecology appointment). But it's not my absolute favourite. This in turn lead me to think of my favourite perfumes which I haven't bought in a while.
The first is J'Adore by Christian Dior.
The smell reminds me of my first trip to Switzerland with my hubby. I bought it duty free in Melbourne airport while waiting for a connecting flight.
My second is Angel by Tierry Mugler.
This perfume just smells to me like chocolate and brings back memories of our first trip to New Zealand. We arrived in Christchurch on Christmas day and hubby had bought it for me as a surprise.
All these musings led me to the conclusion that smell really does invoke memories. At least for me. My two favourite perfumes remind me of happy times with my hubby, and of places I've been. I always smile and feel good whenever I walk through the perfume department - unless of course I've been attacked by the migraine monster whereas then I just flee to the nearest pharmacy.

Ah, perfume. I feel naked and incomplete without it. I use it even when I am in the house. Mg favorite and signature scent has been difficult to obtain. It's Le Caleche by Hermes. Hope you are in tip top shape 100% well soon. Thank you for your visit on my sky blog.
